If you want to see the graphic
effects on these pages, the layouts we intended, and the proper
background colors and textures, the two most popular internet browsers are current
versions of Netscape Navigator and MS Internet Explorer. Also, if you want to see
state-of-the-art multimedia as it exists on the Web, you'll need helper applications and
in-line plugins.
Some older browsers (including those provided by some on-line services) won't even show
transparent graphics (which is how you make a graphic seem to "blend" with the
page). None (that I know of) will properly read the tables that are used for layout
control on many web pages -- so you find such things as image thumbnails and their titles
scattered helter-skelter about the page.
If you use an on-line service (such as America On-Line, Prodigy, or Compuserve) you may
still be able to use Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser.
Ask your on-line-service how to do this.
Here are links to just a few of the most important plug-ins. It's a good idea, if you want to be able to see most of the multimedia on the web, to install them. There are hundreds of other choices, but these are those that we find most useful:
Adobe Acrobat Reader (for
Adobe PDF documents)
Macromedia
Shockwave (at least pick up Shockwave for Flash)
Apple QuickTime Player
RealOne Audio Player
(Click the link to download the player.)
Good luck and thanks.
